The great plate debate
Over this last week, I've been speaking with a person really doing their homework about alkaline water/ionizers. They have been talking with a person at Enagic as well as myself. Here is a brief summary of what has been raised. The first thing I did was recommend the person read Dr RobertYoung's article on Kangen Water Myths and Facts: http://articlesofhealth.blogspot.com/2007/02/kangen-water-fact-or-myth.html Here was the response from the Enagic person: "The link you sent me has been around ever since a distributor of a cheap product made that stuff up and put it on line. Hey I don't blame him for wanting a piece of how incredible Enagic is, but it's not the truth." That "distributor of a cheap product" is Dr Robert Young -- author of The pH Miracle, a credible expert on acid alkaline balance and someone the Enagic people all defer to. Most of them show the interview with Dr Robert Young on CNN for example. On the one hand, they celebrate his expertise on why we should drink alkaline water, yet on the other he makes "stuff up." Also in the response was a link to some videos about the plate size of different machines. The videos fail to examine either of the new Emco Tech machines sold under license by Ionways, but I think a more useful comparison is that of a TV. Back in 1995, TV sets were big and bulky, now we have ultra thin plasma screens. The next wave will be on plastic film millimeters thick. Fact is, things improve with technology and in Japan, where all this started and where they are all designed, space everywhere is at a premium -- that's why every type of appliance is made smaller and smaller. Big, bulky, old technology is very hard to find in Japan. I asked Ian about his thoughts on plate size and he was kind enough to provide an 8 minute audio dealing with the issue. Here is a basic summary if time is an issue: "Dr Young's rave on ORP mentions plate size irrelevance. The Enagic is a ten + year old unit which originally sold for $1500. In those days they took plates and dipped them in a platinum bath. Sometimes it was OK, sometimes not. This was the coating method. Emco Tech, in cooperation with Toyo University, developed polymer bonding of platinum onto the titanium, which gave a harder more resistant and more even coating. Today, the Delphi and Athena employ a serrated surface that greatly increases surface area without creating a huge unit like the Enagic. Just imagine what that would look like in your kitchen. There's a video on Youtube that shows that all models get about the same ORP, so it's pretty irrelevant. More to the point is the newly patented self cleansing systems of the Delphi and Athena. Old models like the Enagic used a separate cycle of reverse polarity to clean the electrodes after use. Sometimes they time it after a number of uses, sometimes they do it before or after every use. This was effective but wasted a lot of water. It also made collecting acid water hard because every time the unit self cleansed, it dumped alkaline water into the acid water bucket or whatever was used to collect acid water. It meant the user had to be ready to remove the acid hose every time the unit self- cleansed to be able to get good acid beauty water. Now the exclusive self cleanse method swaps chambers each time it's used. This means that any acid minerals that collected on the positive charged plate are swept off, and any alkaline minerals are swept off by acidic water as it operates. Summarizing, it cleanses AS IT OPERATES: a vast improvement over old systems. The Delphi and the Athena also always output alkaline from the alkaline spout. This may seem a small thing but older units like the Enagic output acid from the alkaline spout as they do their separate cleanse process. With older people and kids, this is a real hassle. All they want to do is get a drink!" This email was sent out earlier this year. "Greetings to you all! Attached is the latest form to come out of corporate. Include this disclosure when writing up a sale and send it in/back with the order form and W-9. It is a disclosure that spells out the return policy that has been revised and revamped. Now, instead of the 30 days unconditional FULL money back, it is 3 day money back with a graduated monetary refund after the 3 days. This is what can happen when a few mis-sell and effectively take away a generous feature. I know you are all probably groaning at this point as were we here close to the office. Unfortunately, this has come about from people selling the guarantee instead of the machine and way too many returns happened. Reminder: A good sale is one that sells the machine's benefits of what it can do for the customer...not what they get when or if they don't like it. Always assume and know it is just "what they've always needed." The probability of return, should only come up at the very end of the transaction, if at all. The disclosure now spells out the new terms." -- Returning a Brand New Machine Within three days- Refund of full amount minus expenses. Within seven days- Refund of 80% of machine price minus expenses. Within one month- Refund of 70% of machine price minus expenses. Returning a Used machine Within three days- Refund of 80% of machine price minus expenses. Within seven days- Refund of 70% of machine price minus expenses.
